Special training day. We will cover applied self-defence techniques and some take downs. The Gym will be matted. Open to ages 8+. Bring gloves and a t-shirt or rash vest to wear under your gi.
This is a free event but we ask that you bring some non-perishable food (e.g. baked beans, spaghetti, tinned fruit, tinned veggies and pasta) that will be donated to the Christchurch City Mission

In this half-day workshop we will offer an in-depth view of kata both as a training tool, and as competition art form. The workshop will be co-taught by Sensei Trevor Foster (6th Dan JKS) and Dan Jakes (4th Dan KNZ).
Session one will cover realistic application of techniques and strategies, as well as partner drills that draw on kata sequences.
Session two will cover competition kata, what judges look for, interpreting rules and key No-Nos of competition.

Interclub sparring session for 14yrs—adult (5kyu+)
Participants must bring their own protective gear, which should be worn during all bouts. Participants take part at their own risk and are advised that JION I.K.D.A. cannot accept responsibility for any injury occuring whilst sparring. Protective gear required : Mouth guard/ approved sparring gloves & shin-instep protectors (chest/groin/body/face protectors advisable)
